Hysilens Build Guide — Honkai: Star Rail

Honkai: Star Rail

Hysilens just landed in Honkai: Star Rail and she’s flipping DoT teams on their head. This 5★ Physical Nihility character has totally reshaped my damage-over-time runs, and yeah, she’s locked into my endgame squads now.

What Makes Hysilens Special

Hysilens character card

Hysilens doesn’t play like your standard DPS. She dives deep into DoT chaos, slapping Wind Shear, Bleed, Burn, and Shock on foes via a slick passive. Any ally swing triggers a 100% base chance for her to land one of those states, and it smartly mixes things up to avoid repeats. That Ultimate drops a “Zone” – basically her turf where enemies eat ATK and DEF cuts while DoTs tick extra Physical pain. When it all clicks, those popping numbers are pure addiction. But she’s glued to Kafka. No steady DoT pops? Her output tanks hard. Pair her with constant attackers though, and she turns into a monster.

Here’s her full kit laid out:

Ability Core effect
Basic ATK Single-target Physical DMG (reported scaling: 50%-100% ATK by trace/level)
Skill AoE Physical DMG; increases DMG taken by all enemies (Vulnerability, values: 10-20% for 3 turns by trace/Eidolon); 100% base application chance
Ultimate Deploys Zone reducing enemy ATK/DEF (ATK: -15%, DEF: -15%-25% by upgrade); AoE Physical DMG (120-200% ATK)
For each DoT instance on an enemy in Zone: extra Physical DoT (32%-80% ATK per trace/Eidolon); triggers up to 8, or 12 with E6
Talent On any ally attack: 100% base chance to inflict Wind Shear, Bleed, Burn, or Shock (prioritizes different state)
DoT scaling varies: Wind Shear/Burn/Shock (10-25% ATK per turn); Bleed = 20% Max HP up to 10-25% Hysilens ATK cap

Major Strengths:

  • Nails multi-type DoT spread
  • Drops teamwide vulnerability on top of brutal DEF shred
  • Runs SP-positive without much hassle (A2 trace and Ultimate tricks handle it)
  • Pays off huge with smart gear
  • Bursts existing DoTs at 150% via Ultimate

Notable Weaknesses:

  • Needs time to ramp before she hits stride
  • Boss phase swaps that wipe debuffs kill your momentum
  • Eats heavy Effect Hit Rate rolls (aim for 120%)
  • Dives without Kafka backing her up
  • Damn, one stocking’s ripped – we were this close

Trace Priorities and Damage Scaling

Honkai Star Rail traces overview

Traces on Hysilens follow a straight path. Pump Ultimate and Talent to the top right away – they’re your damage core, full ★★★★★ value. Skill slots in after at ★★★★ for those key vulnerability hits. Basic Attack? Barely ★ or ★★; save it for last. Ultimate and Talent first is the rule.

  • The Gladius of Conquest (A2) – Total shift. She kicks off fights with her Ultimate Zone for 3 turns, and every Zone drop refunds 1 Skill Point. Opening turns hit hard without energy hunts.
  • The Bubble of Banquets (A4) – Ultimate on DoT-marked enemies? All those ticks explode for 150% normal output. Mid-fight nuke that shreds bars.
  • The Fiddle of Pearls (A6) – Effect Hit Rate rules here. Every 10% over 60% nets +15% damage, capping at +90% with 120% EHR. Skip this setup and you’re gutting her punch.

Scaling Numbers Across Different Levels

Ability growth hits hard with traces and Eidolons. The swings are nuts:

Skill scaling variants:

  • Base level: 70% ATK AoE damage, 10% vulnerability for 3 turns
  • Mid upgrades: 105% ATK damage, 15% vulnerability
  • High-end builds: 122-140% ATK damage, 17-20% vulnerability

Ultimate scaling variants:

  • Entry level: 120% ATK AoE, DEF reduction 15%, per-DoT trigger at 32% ATK (up to 8 times)
  • Mid progression: 160% ATK damage, 20% DEF reduction, 58.4% ATK per DoT instance
  • Fully invested: 180-200% ATK damage, 22.5-25% DEF reduction, 68-80% ATK per trigger

Talent DoT application:

  • Wind Shear/Burn/Shock: starts at 10% ATK per turn, scales up to 21.2-25% depending on traces
  • Bleed always hits for 20% of enemy Max HP, capped at Hysilens’ ATK multiplier (10% at base, scaling to 21.2-25% at higher levels)

Nail these upgrades, and output doubles easy.

Stat Targets and Build Focus

Hysilens journal artwork

Hysilens demands precise stats. Skimp, and you’re wasting her kit. 120% Effect Hit Rate is the headline here.

Stat Target / Range
Effect Hit Rate 120% (to unlock full A6 bonus)
ATK 3000 minimum; 3600 for max Revelry by the Sea
SPD ≥135 (or 129 with Why Does the Ocean Sing)

Main stat priorities per slot:

  • Body: Effect Hit Rate (until you hit 120% total, then swap to ATK%)
  • Feet: Speed if you need specific breakpoints; otherwise ATK%
  • Planar Sphere: Physical DMG% gives best returns, though ATK% works
  • Link Rope: ATK% or Energy Regeneration Rate – I prefer Energy Regen for consistent Ultimate uptime

Substat hunting priority: Effect Hit Rate > ATK% > Speed

That 120% EHR line is everything. Lock it with Body and rolls, then stack Attack hard. Signature Light Cone eases the load, freeing relics for raw power.

Speed tweaks by cone. “Why Does the Ocean Sing” lets you chill at 129 since it buffs team pace. No sig? 135 floor, or edge Kafka by 1 for clean DoT pops.

Player runs average 3333 ATK, 123.4% Effect Hit Rate, 145.4 Speed. Solid targets, not pie-in-the-sky stuff.

Relics and Planar Ornaments

Best-in-slot 4-piece set: Prisoner in Deep Confinement, hands down. 2-piece bumps ATK 12%, 4-piece ignores 6% enemy DEF per DoT – up to 18% with three stacks. Her DoT spam makes it click perfect.

Prisoner in Deep Confinement relic set

Champion of Streetwise Boxing works as backup, pumping Physical hits and ATK stacks. Solid early, but it lags behind Prisoner.

Champion of Streetwise Boxing relic set

For starters or mixes, grab 2-pieces like Musketeer of Wild Wheat, Warrior Goddess of Sun and Thunder, Hero of Triumphant Song, Messenger Traversing Hackerspace, The Wind-Soaring Valorous, or Sacerdos’ Relived Ordeal. Chase Effect Hit Rate and ATK subs first.

Planar Ornament choice: Revelry by the Sea owns it. 2-piece +12% ATK, then +12% DoT at 2400 ATK or +24% at 3600. Grind that 3600 Attack – the payoff crushes.

Revelry by the Sea

Pan-Cosmic Commercial Enterprise flexes better with extra EHR. +10% Effect Hit Rate, turns overflow into +25% ATK. Killer if EHR floods your rolls but Attack stalls.

Firmament Frontline: Glamoth adds +12% ATK and damage kicks at 135 Speed (+12%) or 160 (+18%). Speed ask can clash with cones, but it delivers when tuned.

Pro tip – signature cone’s Speed team boost means aggressive Attack relics while nailing breakpoints. Cone-relic sync actually shifts your damage here.

Light Cone Rankings

Signature Light Cone: “Why Does the Ocean Sing”

Why Does The Ocean Sing Light Cone

This one’s Hysilens’ perfect match. Base +40% Effect Hit Rate (up to +60% at high superimposition) clears major stat hurdles. It tags “Enthrallment” on debuffed foes for DoT amps per stack and Speed to attackers.

About 43.65% of top Hysilens setups pack it. That Speed trick enables the 129 build and speeds team turns – wild for rotations.

Premium 5★ alternatives:

“Reforged Remembrance” edges close. +40% Effect Hit Rate, stacks Prophet on DoT hits for ATK bumps and DEF ignore. Mirrors sig amp, just via stacks.

Reforged Remembrance Light Cone

“Those Many Springs” dumps Effect Hit Rate and amps via Cornered/Unarmored states. Reliable if owned, less plug-and-play.

Best 4★ option: “Eyes of the Prey”

Eyes of the Prey Light Cone

S5 hits +40% Effect Hit Rate and +48% DoT. Straight fire, no frills. 36.5% usage makes it the go-to 4-star. No sig pull? Chase this.

“Good Night and Sleep Well” ramps damage per debuff – fits her multi-tag style but trails Eyes.

“It’s Showtime” boosts on debuffs plus ATK from Effect Hit Rate. Budget filler, but it feels soft next to premiums.

“Solitary Healing” gives Break Effect, Ultimate DoT bumps, and Energy on DoT kills. Niche holdover if desperate.

Eidolon Breakdown and Investment Priority

Hysilens animation

Eidolon details

E1 – You Ask Why Hearts Cry

Hysilens’ top Eidolon by miles. On-field, allies pump DoT to 116% original. Her Talent DoTs? 100% extra identical stack that layers on.

Doubles application while +16% team DoT. Spike’s ridiculous – sources tag it “amazing,” top spender stop, beats sig cone for raw output.

E2 – Tell Me Why Waves Roar High

Zone up? A6’s +90% damage at 120% EHR hits the whole squad. Turns her solo boost into team fire. Community tests rate it “amazing”; snag as E2 pick.

E3 – Why Do Lights Bid Goodbye

Usual bump – Ultimate +2, Basic +1. Steady gain, no shakeup.

E4 – Lo, How Time Flows By

Zone active: -20% All-Type RES on enemies. ★★★☆☆ solid, but E1 crushes it, E6 multiplies harder.

E5 – In Ablution, I Hum and Sigh

Skill +2, Talent +2. Damage nudge, no style flip.

E6 – When to Return From Where You Lie

Zone: DoT triggers max 12 (from 8), +20% multiplier. ★★★★★ power, but whale-only cost. Guides say skip unless all-in; E1 value laps it.

Budget approaches:

  • 1-pull budget (minimal investment): E0S0 – base character, no signature
  • 2-pull budget: E1S0 – grab that game-changing first Eidolon
  • 3-pull budget: E2S0 – extend team buffs through second Eidolon
  • Whale budget: E6S1 – maximum power ceiling

Consensus screams E1 first. Spending? E1 over sig every time. Order: E1 > E2 > Signature LC > E6 > E4.

I parked at E1S0 – no regrets. That jump alone made her dominate DoT squads.

Team Compositions and Synergies

Hysilens team artwork

Hysilens needs teams that feed her Talent attacks and DoT pops. “Black Swan 2.0. Pull and forget” nails the hype – bad comps flop her, right ones unleash hell.

Triple DoT Team (Maximum Damage Potential)

Core: Hysilens / Kafka / Black Swan / Sustain

Black Swan icon

Peak setup. Kafka detonates non-stop, Black Swan piles Arcana with extra DoTs, Hysilens blankets four types. Damage snowballs – DoTs fuel everything.

Sustain picks:

  • Gallagher iconGallagher: Heals SP-smart, attacks often for Talent triggers
  • Luocha: Steady heals, auto-follows
  • Aventurine iconAventurine: Shields plus follow-ups

I’ve cleared MoC 12 three-stars steady with it. Ceiling’s nuts when synced.

Double DoT Team (Flexible Power)

Core: Hysilens / Kafka / Support / Sustain

Swaps a DoT for buffs. Support ideas:

  • Robin iconRobin: ATK team boost, turn skips – ramps cycles quick
  • Ruan Mei iconRuan Mei: RES shred, Speed, Break ties
  • Asta: Cheap ATK/Speed push
  • Tingyun: Energy/ATK to Ult faster
  • Tribbie iconTribbie: RES pen, follow-up amps (pairs killer with A4)

Same sustains. Trades stacks for speed and bursts – nails tight boss DPS.

F2P Accessible Team

Hysilens / Sampo / Asta / Gallagher

No Kafka/Black Swan? This holds up:

  • Sampo: Wind Shear DoT, debuff help
  • Asta: Keeps pace and ATK flowing
  • Gallagher: Heals, attacks, SP-free

Won’t top Triple, but clears fine on free pulls past Hysilens.

“Deathsilens” – Maximum Aggression

Hysilens / Kafka / Black Swan / Ruan Mei

No heals. All-in damage. Ruan Mei shreds RES/Speed, enables Breaks; Kafka/Black Swan DoT and pop.

Risky – enemies must drop fast. Boss tricks or hits wreck it. But for speed clears and big numbers? Unmatched.

Specialized Variant – Cyrene Synergy

Kafka / Hysilens / Cyrene / Permansor Terrae

Cyrene icon

Cyrene buffs Hysilens direct, Permansor Terrae shields/ATK via Souldragon. Slower Ult charge, but focused amps on her hit insane.

Niche – only if Cyrene’s invested for Hysilens carry.

Partner Considerations

Other fits:

  • Huohuo iconHuohuo: Energy/cleanses for debuff bosses
  • Jiaoqiu: DoT alt sans Black Swan
  • Guinaifen: Cheap Burn with debuff kick
  • Cipher iconCipher: Target vuln, Ult nukes
  • Silverwolf: DEF/RES cuts

Key? Frequent hitters or DoT amps. Slow swingers drag her down.

Bottom line – Kafka’s non-negotiable for peak. Tested both ways; gap’s huge. She works solo, but shines with Kafka.

Gameplay Strategy and Rotation Management

Honkai Star Rail combat system overview

Hysilens runs passive-aggressive – set DoT conditions, let autos handle damage.

Opening sequence – A2 auto-Zones fight start. Turn one: Skill for vuln/AoE. Then ally swings build stacks.

Keep Zone rolling. 3 turns from her view (ticks down on her turn). A2 plus Ult covers most fights. Energy Rope nails Ult loops.

Speed tuning – Act pre-Kafka for DoT setup before pops. +1 Speed (or 129 sig) does it.

DoT stacking – Talent mixes types first four hits, then refreshes. Just attack often.

Ultimate timing – A4 detonates DoTs at 150%. Hold till 3-4 stacks, then drop for chunk damage – 20-30% boss HP easy.

Boss phase management – Cleanses reset stacks. Time Ults post-phase; avoid waste. Untargetable windows? Buff up.

Skill Point economy – SP-friendly. A2 refunds on Zones (start + Ults). Ult free once up. Spam ally Skills – Robin/Tribbie shine.

Energy management – No batteries? Energy Rope must. Or slower Ults, weaker Zones.

Practical Speed breakpoints:

  • 129 SPD: Viable with sig
  • 135 SPD: No-sig base
  • 145 SPD: Buffer for supports
  • 160+ SPD: Max Glamoth if picked

Don’t over-Speed – balance with ATK/EHR.

Effect Hit Rate – Under 60%? Misses and no A6. 60-119% partial. 120%+ full throttle. Never dip below on real builds.

Boss rotation: Skill → 3-4 ally hits → stack wait → Ult → Kafka pop → allies → Kafka → refresh. Waves? Spread DoTs AoE-first, then clear.

Ascension and Trace Materials

Ascension materials collage

Ascension & Trace materials

Full build eats resources. Totals:

Ascension materials total:

  • Thief’s Instinct × 15
  • Usurper’s Scheme × 15
  • Enigmatic Ectostella × 65
  • Conqueror’s Will × 15
  • Credits × 308,000

Trace upgrade materials follow the standard 5-star pattern with reported quantities including:

  • Various counts: 15, 41, 72, 56, 139, 58, 12, 8 across different material types
  • Total Credits for complete trace upgrades: 3,000,000

Farm Thief’s/Usurper’s ASAP. Ectostella? Sim Universe or shop. 3M credits sting – daily grind or stall.

Performance Data and Simulation Results

Honkai performance illustration

Sims paint her power clear. 5-cycle MoC (Lv80, opt relics, levels/Eidolon):

  • E6 with signature: 6,362,408 damage (369% scaling)
  • E0 with signature: 2,169,992 damage (126% scaling)

E0 to E6 nearly triples, but E1/E2 carry most. E6 adds 80-100% over E2 at huge cost.

Light Cone – Sig beats Eyes 15-20%. Frees ATK subs, team Speed cycles faster.

Multi-target scales even – AoE kit hits groups hard. Strong single or waves.

Matches my runs: E1S0 hits 2.5-3M per cycle on bosses – clears all now.

Community Reception and Final Thoughts

Community spotlight image

Players lit up for Hysilens. DoT mains, your time’s here – keeps archetype alive. Black Swan pairs explode with Arcana/DoTs.

But Kafka lock-in stings true. No Kafka soon? Value dips. Works, but not elite. Kafka/Black Swan owners? She’s essential.

Pull if:

  • Kafka/Black Swan owned
  • DoT style clicks
  • Endgame DoT focus

Skip if:

  • No Kafka path
  • Burst/Break preference
  • Zero DoT backups

Spenders, E1 flips her. Beats sig if picking. E0S1 vs E1S0? Eidolon wins.
