Are you tired of waiting to eco with the rest of your team? Are you too inexperienced to force with just pistols? The MP9 is for you.
The Power of the MP9
The MP9 is not only the strongest SMG, but arguably one of the strongest guns in the game right now.
By the end of this article, it will be clear why. The MP9 has some interesting and unique stats that many players may not be aware of.
Fast Firing Rate
Starting off, the MP9 is tied with the MAC-10 and P90 for the fastest firing SMGs in the game at 857 rounds per minute. It has a strong 26 base damage, but on top of that, it also has the lowest damage drop-off of any SMG. After Valve adjusted the $1200 rifle, the MP9 became the king for long-range spray and pray. This is supposed to be a cheap eco gun, the CT equivalent of the MAC-10 for holding close-range angles.
Unique Stats
What’s even better than having the lowest damage drop-off? Having the highest jumping accuracy. Because of its great form factor and poor balancing, the MP9 has the highest jumping accuracy of any SMG. It is more accurate while jumping than while running.
In fact, here’s another stat: Unlike the MP5’s slow reload, the MP9 reloads quickly at 2.1 seconds, making it the fastest reload of any gun in the game. So don’t be afraid to reload this with only half a magazine left. When you can empty the whole magazine in 2 seconds, you’ll need every round you can get.
Cost Efficiency
The MP9 costs only $1250, making it one of the most efficient and cost-effective guns in the game by a wide margin.
With the MP9, players can hold tight angles, run and gun, and secure easy kills at both close and long range. The MP9’s higher jumping accuracy compared to running accuracy makes it a unique gun. Unlike the Scout, where players need to accurately time stationary jump shots, the MP9 can spray multiple bullets while running and jumping, making it the perfect choice for a second-round buy if you win the pistol round.
Just make sure to stay mobile and avoid locking yourself into a crouch spray duel.
If the opposing team wins the pistol round, the MP9 is still the perfect buy to catch AK-47 crouch spraying enemies off guard.
Playing B Site
Because of the gun’s characteristics, B site is an ideal location to play with this weapon. It’s easy to force buy every round and hold B site solo with an MP9 and full grenades. Molotovs and grenades can quickly shut down a fast rush, and side jumping to check if anyone is in apps or coming from cat is very effective.
As you can tell, abusing its strong and unique stats is the best way to use this gun. However, don’t forget the single most important stat: its price. At $1250, the MP9 is too cheap for the value it provides. An MP9 and full armor will only cost $2250, half the cost of a full buy with armor and an M4, making it the most cost-effective setup in the game.
The Comparison with Other SMGs
While the gameplay mechanics and stats can make a gun look strong, the price alone makes the MP9 truly overpowered. The P90 is a strong SMG with great damage, armor penetration, ammo capacity, and running accuracy. However, it is rarely seen in professional play, primarily for two reasons: it’s expensive and provides little kill reward. This makes it a poor value despite its stats.
The MP9, on the other hand, is technically the CT-side variant of the MAC-10, but it stands out because it works in full buy rounds. The average game of Counter-Strike usually progresses from pistols to cheap eco guns, then to full buys. This middle stage of buying eco guns can be a great investment or a risk, even if you win the round.
If you win the pistol round and invest $1200 into a Nova, hoping to shut down a B rush and earn easy cash for the next round, you may find that the opposing team went to A site.
This can leave you in an awkward position where your team can afford M4s, but you are left with a Nova.
In this situation, the downside of eco guns becomes apparent. While they are effective in anti-ecos and force buys, they don’t work with full buys. This is why it’s essential for a team to save and buy together. This situation doesn’t apply to the MP9. The MP9 is better than every other SMG because it works in full buys.
If you lose the pistol round and your team chooses to save, you can still force buy an MP9. Even if you die, you can buy another MP9 next round, and it will still work with your team’s full buy with M4s. With Counter-Strike 2 having shorter matches, this applies to every round. You aren’t punished for force buys with the MP9.
Conclusion
The MP9 adds something useful to shake up the AK, M4, and AWP meta, giving the CT side a chance to run and gun. While there have been more overpowered guns in the game before, the MP9 could use a price adjustment and should probably be in the $1500 slot instead of its current price. However, players cannot rely solely on the MP9 every round to rank up. M4s will still be necessary for winning on the CT side.
